Went to Suwon, South Korea for a day. We saw the Palace and hiked up the mountain to walk along Hwaseong Fortress, a fortified wall that encircles the old town of Suwon. We hiked for three hours and only got 3/4 or the way around. One of the most amazing places we've been to.

 Traditional Korean Hahoe masks at Suwon

The museum of traditional Korean Hahoe masks in Suwon, South Korea, shows how these beautiful wooden masks are made and used. Usually made from alder wood, they are painted or lacquered and were used in ceremonies, wars, Palace courts, to ward off spirits and in plays. In some the mouth is hinged for movement.  South Korea: Suwon, a city with a korean fortress

Suwon is a city of one million inhabitants near Seoul in South Korea. Its main tourist atraction in the Hwaseong fortress, which is a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Hwaseong was built in 1796 and it is the best preserved fortress in Asia. The fortress is accesed from several gates in the walls. The rset of the city is modern and characterised by the high-rise residencial buildings tipycal of Korean cities.
